All change!
This weekend saw a very successful photoshoot with local Guildford photographer Phil Mitchell (Philm) in a bluebell wood (it's not as cold as its looks!). Here's a sneaky peak. Over the next few weeks you might notice some changes to the website/Facebook/Twitter feed as I slowly make the transformation and move towards the new EP and the move towards doing more commercial composition. As always let me know your thoughts! :)

Update on new materail!
Hi all,

I've been asked in a few radio interviews I've done lately, if or when the next lot of new materiel will be making an appearance.....I'm pleased to say that yes! There will be a new EP of four tracks (possibly five, depending on budget!) preliminarily titled 'Colour Me In' coming your way at the beginning of 2016. It's a bit of a slow long process, and I have no idea how I'm going to translate these songs live with an acoustic guitar as yet (loop pedal?) as the process has been quite different to anything I've done before! I've found myself glued to Bass! But I'm pleased with what's coming out so far, and in the interests of getting it absolutely right, and respecting the sound of the last album,  I'm not rushing it. Hence the long release date! I will be looking at releasing the first single 'Obsession' in the Autumn of this year, complete with video so hopefully that will wet your taste buds! :)

Now, to whittle down 17 tracks to 4 or 5 <gulp>......

2015....Eek!!

I've been slightly delayed in my first blog of 2015 due to the dreaded lurgy (honestly, what is this thing???). So here's my first chance to have a proper look at the date and realise that 2015 is the ten year (??!!) anniversary of quite a few pinnacle events in my now well established music career, how to make you feel old eh? And where to start?! Well.....I guess firstly with SXSW, yes 2005 was the first of many trips I made over the the US starting with that rather wonderful festival back in March at the tender age of 23, don't I look young? It wasn't the only trip I made that year, 2005 was the year for traveling, with an impromptu trip to Barcelona, a writing trip to Switzerland with THS Music and another US performance and writing session in Boston. Yep, it was quite a year, I can't believe it was that long ago!

Onwards and upwards, 2014 was a great year for gigs and I had a blast performing at You Bloom, The Sound Lounge, the Round Church, supporting John Wheeler, and at the Classics events I played at. I also had some great exposure through BASCA for 'River Man'. A huge thank you to all of you who have been a part of it!

2015 will be there year of some new material which is waiting in the wings, I've just got to work out what to do with it.........

It's a double whammy in Oxford this weekend, kicking off this Friday (3rd Oct) at the 'Festival of Ancient Tales' 3.15-7pm at the East Oxford Community Classics Centre at Cheney School. This event is FREE and features Carol Ann Duffy, Tom Holland and the wonderful Caroline Lawrence. If you're around (and have children, they would love it) then do come along. It looks spectacular. I'll be performing every half hour or so on rotation throughout the event between talks in the reception area, talking about the songs and the inspiration behind them. For more details:

New music & River Man changes
Hi folks,

Now that the gig season is calming down I thought it might be time to give you an update on 'camp Neale'.

I've had a lot of people ask me at recent gigs about new recordings. I am planning, at some point, to release an EP. However the demands of two little ones, ill health, a PhD proposal, general teaching and gigging have rather put the brakes on my creativity at the moment, and while I am writing slowly, I've only come up with one or two songs which I feel will match or bring anything to what I've already done with 'River Man'. I'm hoping to stretch my creative wings a bit by doing some co writing and working on projects completely different from what I do.  I guess what I'm saying here is bare with me.....

On another important note, you may notice that the sound of the title track of 'River Man' changes slightly over the next week or so. The song as it stands uses a three second sample of 'The Dreaming' by Kate Bush, and while Jez and I did look into getting clearance for the track at the time in 2012, we weren't able to identify who it was we were meant to speak to (thanks to some misadvise on the phone from EMI publishing at the time.). Thanks to some now well placed friends in the industry I've manged to email and submit the relevant forms but there are some pretty heftily restrictions in place IF we get clearance. I really don't want to annoy or upset anyone here so the sample has been removed. The track and album are currently being remastered by the wonderful Dave Blackman. The change isn't that noticeable but for my piece of mind, it's worth it. I hope you all still enjoy it and it's meaning the same.
